Box-office hit Crazy Rich Asians has definitely catered in full to the buzz over the actress, although she had already made a presence in UK with her role in the sci-fi TV show Humans. Her career has been on a slow, steady incline after forfeiting a contract with a multinational law firm to study theatre at Drama Centre London. She's made appearances in Sherlock, Fantastic Beasts, and even voiced Quintessa in the most recent Transformers film.
Chan's heart of gold has shone quite often in real life, not just as the soft-hearted Astrid. A trip to Syria aiding refugee children (read her blog post about it here), protesting yellow-face at a London theatre, participating in the Time's Up movement, and made a stance against animal testing.
For anyone else obsessed with her elegant style, you'll be pleased to hear she has a background in fashion as well. She placed 3rd in the premiere season of Project Catwalk, a UK reality series for fashion design quite like US's Project Runway paired with America's Next Top Model. Most of her red carpet looks are made by Asian designers as a way of showing pride for her background.
If you have even an ounce left of jealousy towards you can muster up, it may be over the men she's been seen with. After casually dining with Harry Styles in 2013, dating Jack Whitehall for six years, she's now been seen moving in with one Dominic Cooper. Not sure who else agrees, but they're truly the lucky bastards if a woman like her gives them the time of day.
You can catch Gemma in her next projects Mary Queen of Scots (December 2018) and Captain Marvel (March 2019), but in the meantime, she updates her Instagram quite often, so I'd suggest following her there as well.
