The Big Spill: What's In My Make-Up Bag
July 13, 2019
(Is Duckie Thot not one of the most gorgeous women on planet Earth?)
Previously, I spilled on what currently makes up my skincare routine and I thought this would be the right topic to follow-up with. Make-up is not something I have the chops for; truth be told I cannot even accomplish the simple task of blending fucking eyeshadow. What works for me may not work for you but this is essentially a compilation of what I have and use most often. Since my complexion is similar to that of the undead, I highly recommend checking out the gorgeous Nyma Tang and Jackie Aina for products tailored to deeper skin tones.
BASE
Sunscreen
Supergoop! Everyday Sunscreen SPF 50 $19 supergoop.com
The absolute most important step comes first on the list. Some may consider this to be skincare but I keep it in my make-up bag so, well, here we are. This cream is incredibly lightweight and glides on without any greasy residue. Smells very much like sunscreen but I'm one of those weirdos who enjoys the smell since it reminds me of the beach or hot summer Disney World trips. Vegan and Cruelty-Free!
Primer
Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base $48 shop.nordstrom.com
If you're not crazy about powder or thick liquid highlighters but crave that glassy glow, this is your best friend. Equally effective under bb cream/foundation and dabbed on top for an extra boost of luminosity.
Foundation
Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream $22 misshaus.com
Using a beauty blender, I pat this into my face to cover up redness and any unevenness. I much prefer bb creams to foundation because not only do they feel airier through long days and nights, but they also contain ingredients for brightening and moisturizing the skin like hyaluronic acid and chamomile. My only issue would be the lack of color selection beyond a spring break in Miami tan.
Missha M Magic Cushion $19 sokoglam.com
The application method is more controlled in cushion form and meant to be something you can toss into your purse for touch-ups throughout the day. Especially good for those who don't like powdering their faces or fall into the dry skin type category.
Concealer
Han Skincare Liquid Concealer $18 credobeauty.com
At first, I was skeptical of the oil-based formulation of this concealer since I'm a bit oily in my t-zone. To my surprise, this product has insane coverage and blends in seamlessly since it mimics the oils on your skin. It smells like a day at the spa and still holds well on more humid days. Vegan and Cruelty-Free!
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer $30 sephora.com
Everyone and their mother uses this. It can certainly cover craters on the moon's surface with ease. I'm afraid to know what the hell it's actually comprised of but will continue to worship it.
Powder
BareMinerals Bareskin Perfecting Veil $27 ulta.com
Loose powders are not safe for a clumsy person like myself which is why I play it safe with this compact. This is just for under my eyes and any spots around my nose I need to tone down the shine.
Contour
Dior Diorblush Light & Contour Stick $35 (DISCONTINUED)
Yes, this came out in 2016 and I still have it which means it's probably beyond expired but I've not found a better contouring product. Please help me. Dior, bring her back. Bring. Her. Back.
EYEBROWS
The Face Shop Designing Eyebrow Pencil $5 yesstyle.com
I mentioned this product in my all-encompassing brows post at the end of last year and I'm still loyal to her. She gets the job done. All the gaps? Filled. Tails? Extended.
Glossier Boy Brow $16 glossier.com
For getting your brows, life, credit score, and sanity in order. Don't you ever change, kid. Vegan and Cruelty-Free!
EYES
Eyeshadow
Dior Backstage Cool Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette $49 sephora.com
They had a pop-up event when this released and after a professional Cinderella-fied my eyes with this my credit card bibidi bopped right out of my wallet. The eyeshadow primer makes application a breeze and I find it best to use your ring finger to blend. Bottom center is a lovely base, top right is perfect for contouring your eye shape, and top center is the supreme silver glittering goddess shade we all deserve.
3CE Single Eyeshadow $12 yesstyle.com
The pigment of these is gorgeous and I actually would love to try more. Pink Jungle and Tangerine Stain are in my possession but I have my eye (ha) on Spritzer and July Lime.
Mascara
Lily Lolo Mascara $20 credobeauty.com
My lashes have never been more evenly coated and safe from clumping than before purchasing this. This is not for Better Than Sex fans. Clean beauty dupe for Great Lash. Vegan and Cruelty-Free!
Eyeliner
UZ by Flowfushi Eye Opening Liner $16 uz.team
In need of a new one because mine dried out, but I really like this shape. I'm weighing different options to see if this is still the best on the market right now. Great for cat eyes. Cruelty-Free!
CHEEKS
RMS Lip2Cheek $36 credobeauty.com
Smooth and creamy with buildable, vibrant colors. Beloved is a lovely poppy red that can be made to look like you're flushed from the sun or have porcelain doll cheeks. Vegan and Cruelty-Free!
LIPS
Glossier Balm Dotcom in Coconut $12 glossier.com
I've tried a million lip balms and have not changed since trying this out. Keeps lips soft and plump through every season. Also good in Rose and Mint. Cruelty-Free!
Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Lip Balm in Intense $25 chanel.com
If this ever gets discontinued... it's over for me. The absolute best lip product out there. Hydrating, long-lasting, and as if you've been kissed by a rose. I scoured the earth for this shit and it was so worth it.
Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color in Ruby $29 sephora.com
This comes second best in terms of comfortability. Ruby is like a faint vampire kiss color that would be universally flattering.
Bobbi Brown Lipstick in Raisin $29 sephora.com
Jeanne Damas's favorite shade is this pink plum brown that outlasts your glass of Merlot. Perfect color for autumn.
Dior Rouge Lipstick in Satin #999 sephora.com
The cult-fave red is something I chose after an armful of 30 or so swatch trials, and I understand the appeal. Not too warm, not too cool. The truest candy apple red. It's not too messy either, so getting an even coat on isn't a hassle.
Pat McGrath Labs LuxeTrance Lipstick in She's Heaven! $38 sephora.com
The cosmetics queen's creamy nude pink is the only light shade I own. It's no surprise that the genius make-up artist that is Pat would develop a product this good. I often pair it with the Fenty lip gloss below. Cruelty-Free!
Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb in FU$$Y $18 sephora.com
THE gloss of my life. The glittering, sickeningly sweet pink is darling alone or on top of a nude lip like the Pat McGrath one mentioned above. Rihanna, I will devote myself to you and all Fenty brands you come up with. Cruelty-Free!
Glossier Lip Gloss in Clear $14 glossier.com
Now that the newer options have been released I'm curious to try them out. Clear provides the ultimate glassy lip gloss. Not safe for windy days. Vegan and Cruelty-Free!
SETTING
Avène Thermal Spring Water $14 aveneusa.com
Mostly used for spritzing my beauty blender before bb cream and concealer, but also useful for when the weather gets a bit dry.
Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray $33 sephora.com
Keeps your face from melting off and saves you if you committed the sin of powdering too much. Vegan and Cruelty-Free!
